Not sure if this is even close or not....but I suspect that CW was
used a LOT more then than it is now.  I can atest from my QRP
adventures that CW goes a lot further than phone does.

I currently have about 25 grids confirmed using loops in my attic at 5
watts.  95 % of those contacts were CW.
