Stan,

As previously stated, I believe protection all the way to the surface
and above the surface by concrete should work as long as the total
concrete weight and size are big enough for the job. However, if you
scan the archives for "protective coating" you will find a K7LXC
suggestion about protecting galvanized coatings with roofing tar or
other preservatives. Seems logical to me.
