Actually folks you are missing the point ... in practice the safety 
equipment enables
a person to work on the tower with /*both hands*/, i.e. you can let go 
of the iron and do some
2- handed work.

##  Everybody gets the point ok.  Doug free climbs his towers... then ties off 
with the lanyard,
freeing up both hands.  We are talking about the assent and decent 
part..without the benefit of the
safety cable and mating locking device.   One slip climbing up or down..and you 
are toast. The cost of the
safety cable + locking device is peanuts.  So tower owners are left with zero 
excuses as to not install and 
use the safety cable.
