There are definite differences in between the various more well known wx
station manufacturers and even more between the sensors they supply. It
really all depends on what the buyer is looking for in detail, reliability
and scope or bredth of the data and type of sensors desired. The Peet
anemometer for example from looking at the specs when I bought seemed better
suitied for capturing instantaneous wind gusts and wind direction shifts
data.
I queried Peet about why they had not developed and marketing a wireless
instrument and their response was that they felt that there simply had not
been enough significant demand. I did learn that they had designed and made
a prototype which is on place on their building, but they had, for the
moment, decided to stay with wired sensors.
I mentioned Davis and to Peet's credit they had some good words about them
and noted one of their patents which is still valid. They also noted some
cons (in general) relative to current wx station manufacturers wireless
transmission and capture of data sets I recollect, and specifically about
the anemometer data sets collected.
Sorta like antennas, towers and cars. We have choices and that's good.

When considering WX stations, some of you guys may find this irritating like
I did... but be aware that some WX stations only report the wind speed to
your console like once a minute, or once every 15 seconds or something like
that. To me this is completely worthless data. I believe the Davis Vantage
stuff is good, like once a second. FYI.

hosted by hams, integrated into the OCRG 24/7wx reporting site at

I live on a hill 75 feet above the ocean (back about 1000 feet) and
originally had the Peet Pro rain gauge but had nothing but corrosion
problems with the pc board mounted in the bowl of the Pro rain gauge unit.
Finally moved to using a simple tipping bucket. Otherwise the Peet unit
has worked well for us since installation in 2003. The single drawback is
that it is wired which is a pain in the butt to deal with. I also use the
Peet solar shield and have to disassemble and clean it yearly because of
the Orygun green slime that builds up on it. In our case sensors are
mounted at around 30 feet. Did have an RF problem with the humidity
reading when running QRO but use of a choke in the line solved the issue
(tnx for the info K9YC).
If I have to replace this systemit will be with a wireless unit, probably
Davis if Peet has not, by then, come out with a wireless system (it
certainly isn't a rocket science project). Guess I'll have to send an
email asking why they are behind the curve. Neighbor bought an Oregon
Scientific wireless unit and the salt air had corroded everything external
within a year making it useless junk (just an observation).
Been interesting to read the comments from so many of what is being used
and experiences.
