I don't know why they loved that old rain gauge "bucket", but they
surely did...  I still need to move the sensors/mount to the south side
of the rain gauge to prevent shading by the spikes.

I use shielded CAT-7 (super overkill I think) and haven't had an issue. 
I plan to do a detail survey of the network when I rebuild it.
