I spent way too much time dealing with this issue with my Orion 2800 rotator.   
I finally bought of these K7NV mast clamps and never had a problem since.  He 
makes these for his prop pitch rotators and others.  Just tell him what you 
have.  Take a look at the design.  No slipping there !
