Nothing like a specially designed contest program, such as CT, for pure
contesting. However, if you are looking for an outstanding logging program
with a contest mode please take a look at DXBase 98 from Scientific
Solutions.
If you are looking for the reliability and flexibility of 32-bit
applications in your logging application then take a look at DXBase 98's web
site at http://www.mindspring.com/~jlennox/. DXBase 98 is a very fast
performing 32-bit logging program that runs on Windows 95 or 98, and NT 4.
After visiting DXBase's web site I believe you will see that it meets almost
all of your requirements; especially that price requirement (well, 10 to 55
dollars for an upgrade) of yours. Also, the program has many more features
that you didn't list. It's built in label, report generator, QSL card
design program can produce some very professional looking color QSL cards
for those in-between contest contacts. For the contest QSOs the label or
QSL card program/generator allows you to put multiple QSOs on the label or
QSL card. Most important of all in the label, report, QSL card design
program, no more cryptic design languages/syntaxes in designing you own.
In addition to a web site with on-line updates and help in the form of
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ); DXBase 98 also has a reflector
(dxbase@qth.net). Probably most important is that DXBase 98 resulted from
the inputs from the field. The DXBase 98 design team listened to the folks
in the field and put together an outstanding integrated package. As part of
their design, the software has probably the best windows based CW keyboard
function around. You can communicate with your radio, be connected to both
VHF and the Internet clusters, and be sending CW all simultaneously without
any glitches and only be using 3 Comm ports.
As for your requirement for GOOD software; DXBase 98 is OUTSTANDING
software.
For the past four years I have tried virtually all of the Windows based
logging programs; I can now say that my search has ended with DXBase 98.
For the record, my only connection with the DXBase folks is that I
participated in the beta testing of the software. I have been a DXBase DOS
user for years for its reliability and speed. DXBase 98 carries on that
tradition and brings new functionality's and the flexibility of a 32-bit
application.
