The results are additive -- rise time causes clicks, overdrive causes clicks.

WRONG! Using ALC between the rig and the amp is a CAUSE of clicks and splatter. ALC between a rig and power amp should NEVER be used to set TX power. It should ALWAYS be done by adjusting the power out from the rig!
