The point is that the "impossible" is possible..even with no "huge JA runs" of
the past which you cited.
If you refer to my original post on the topic, I do say that "historically, on
average, that is true."
But if you don't try (think it is impossible), then you are sure to not
win/place/show.
And besides, is it really ONLY about winning? Having FUN is the key. Winning
is icing on cake.
There is great comradery in competition.
At least that is my approach (YMMV).
