Well guys....let's all get ready for the 2009 digital bedlam !!! I've had 3 of my neighbors TODAY say that they have purchased the new digital boxes, and the pictures are GREAT! They don't need cable anymore, and want to put up TV yagi's to pick up Dayton, Colombus, and Louisville!

I only shared with them the possibilities of RFI. Of course, then it'll be my fault. I told them they need to be prepared to purchase RFI filters. "How can your **** hobby cost us money?" I just stated that it's a possibilitiy, and that they need to get the best equipment they can to minimize the impact.

Has anyone else had this stuff come up yet???

In my "real world" TVI is the norm, not the exception. I have lived and operated in the usa (at all power levels) at seven locations in six states and had some degree of TVI in all those places. In TX, my Mexican neighbor called to say, "I hear you thru my phone, and IT IS HUNG UP." Later, I handled some Mex. City earthquake traffic for her ("relatives are ok") and she liked me after that. I also bought her a better telephone set.

I also modulated the flourscent lights in the kitchen, spoke strongly thru my son's stereo, and made the other neighbor's remote control airplane radio lights blink. The best place I lived had all elect wires buried and all used cable tv (I did not need cable tv because I rcvd all sig for it that I needed via a leaky pedistal in my back yard). RF is RF and it loves to excite everything it can, including the atoms in ur eyeballs. 73

In the real world this doesn't often happen.

I run legal limit out here, and none of my several neighbors have TVI. They
have, variously, VHF old fashioned TV antennas, or older C band satellite
antennas and boxes, and new DirecTV antennas and boxes. None of their
phones are affected either.

I have low pass filters on my rig, and extensive grounding, as well as
filtering provided (small amount) by antenna tuners. No other special
affects.

I'd think that you can operate in the great majority of cases problem free.

When there are problems, the tutorials mentioned are great sources of help.

So what your saying is even ONE Milliwatt would create a problem with RFI.
So much for shielding in the real world.

I want to build a glass house with no metal, and transmit 1 KW on the HF
bands with no RFI. RRRRR never happen.
