Baloney.  Once the contest starts there is NO guarantee that any station
will come back to you even if you have a "warmup" QSO and get a "S9+20"
report.  Pre-contesting warmup is NOT contesting.  It's no more
unsportsmanlike than watching films of Sunday's opponent before the game
as preparation for the "real" game.

This is very different.  When you are scoping out traffic nets, you have
no
idea whether a specific individual will be there, who will be receptive
to
your contest advances.   Loading up a bandmap before the contest is akin
to
reaching into the pond, grabbing a docile fish, and poking it onto the
hook.
All you have to do is yank the line at the starting time, and you have
your
trophy fish.
