Hi Paul, 

No way. You only see a tiny bit of the actual spike. 

You can not see the peak power that way, even with many peak 
reading meters.

It takes a fast meter with a long storage time or a storage scope 
(or one with long persistence and high intensity and horizontal 
sweep off) to see the real peak.
