It's not that I don't use CFL's and think they could be something
beneficial to us all. It's just that in my case they have not proven to
have ANY positive benefits.
Although their cost has come down, it's still about 10X of an
incandescent bulb.
I have replaced almost every incandescent bulb in my house with CFL's
I mark the date placed in service on each and every bulb. So far 6
months is about as long as one has lasted. That's long life?
My electricity bill has NOT gone down since I started using CFL's. As a
matter of fact it is up slightly. I have not added any additional
consumers.
Now I have had a CFL almost catch on fire. What would have happened if
no one had been home when it happened. How could a mechanical timer
have been at fault?
I guess I don't like the government telling me what kind of a light bulb
I have to use. That's too much interference in my life. Just like
telling me how many miles per gallon the car I drive has to get. By the
way I drive a diesel that gets over 30 mpg in town.
One of my favorites quotes is from Will Rogers talking about Calvin
Coolidge. "Old Cal didn't do much but that's all right. That's what
the people wanted" Can we get another president like Calvin Coolidge?
We want way too much from our government.
