This thread has been valuable from my perspective. I am getting geared up
to run as one of the WA1W/KL7 stations in a couple of weeks. To hopefully
avoid getting "stepped on" by any of the various ARRL bulletins I have made
a copy of the W1AW schedule from the latest QST and highlighted the various
frequencies used by W1AW for their various modes.
My intention is to check this reminder before jumping on any given band so
as to pick a frequency well removed from any used by ARRL, both as my TX
frequency and any RX split frequency I may choose to use. Hopefully this
will prevent ARRL bulletin interference to my TX frequency and to the RX
frequency I'm using when split.

Hi Mike, I do agree with Ed K0KL on this. I have been copying the W1AW
bulletins for 40 years. I still do, mostly on RTTY but sometimes on CW.
I have used the scheduled bulletins on RTTY to check out various RTTY
Equipment. I even used W1AW CW to calibrate my Heathkit HW-16 when I was a
Novice.
Just because it broke a QSO with you, it doesn't mean it has no value.
As far as setting up on 14313, you can do that. K1MAN did the same thing
for years on 14275. Just be ready to be at your station 24/7.
So when W1AW comes on, either QSY or just copy it.

It would be interesting to see a poll taken of the amateur community on

Dick, I think you should send a copy of your email to ARRL and ask why
they interfered with one of their own W1AW portable stations? Also ask
what are they going to do to insure this doesn't happen again to any
unfortunate soul who happens to be operating on "their" frequency when

This is amusing. The ARRL is touting RM 11708 as being helpful, while
at the same time QRMing an on-going operation on a frequency without
checking to see if it is busy! The ARRL does not have a right to a
frequency if it is occupied already. They are supposed to move to
