I've often wondered why everyone seems to put up 132 or 135ft dipoles fed with tuned feeders. Since the whole system is tuned, why bother making the flat-top a certain length? Using a simple 'basic' program from the W6RCA web site, I calculated that for my paticular situation, a 200ft flat top fed with about 70ft of 450 ohm line would give me an easy match on all bands with no super high or very low impedances. The matchbox easily loaded on all bands but 10 meters was a bit frisky to match so I trimmed about 5ft off the feeder and now get beautiful tuning 160 through 10m with no funny business.
