Your system of measurements are not funny...ours are.
Look at any set of our building blueprints and look at the scale these are drawn...12"=3/8"...cheeeeeee......now where did I put the architects scale... It really was fun when I used to run Autocadd at work and was trying to get my work scaled to fit on the size of paper I was plotting for an architect.... ----- Original Message ----- From: "NJ0IP" <Rick@DJ0IP.de>

Thanks Denton. Sorry folks. I forgot about that. Guess I've been using
these funny measurements too long.

As Denton says, a meter is about a yard.
To be almost exact it is 3.05 ft. (and exactly 3.048 ft.)
For all my planning I simply use "3".
When I build, I use the exact value (if needed).

Without exception, every time I quoted a meter value during this topic, it
wouldn't matter if you used 3 or 3.05 or 3.048. That's the beauty in these
openwire fed antennas.

With coax and resonate antennas, it's another story. Then you do need to be
exact.

Next time I state a value in meters (except for bands) and fail to quote the approximate length in ft., I promise to buy everyone a beer - but you gotta
come to Munich to collect ;-)

P.S. How are you guys managing to follow Lance in the Tour de France, with
all the distances and speeds stated in metric? GO LANCE, GO !!!

Think of a meter as a long yard or slightly over 3' and it's easy to
visualize.....
I have often dearly wished we were on metric on this side of the
pond...makes it a lot easier to do the math in my head...but then, I am a
retired engineering aide!

Rick:

A humble suggestion re your interesting e-mails re antennas (including the
vert. dipole)...
Assuming that a majority of the reflector members are located here in the
USA, might
you consider using the old fashioned measurement system, or at least both. Most folks in the USA have not, and probably won't in the next 20-50 years
(if ever), converted
to, or use, the metric system of measuring things (except those
technocrats
that lurk in the
halls of 'white tower' edifices (ie MIT, Yale, Princeton, etc).
Reading your dissertations causes this old man to have his eyes 'glaze'
over - and doesn't easily
translate.
Just a friendly suggestion.
