That doesn't say much for people in the US, now, does it?  If it isn't in
feet and isn't in English, we don't need it, right? (even though Spanglish,
and not American English,  will be the primary tongue spoken in the US in
about that same timeframe, or sooner).

I wish the ubiquitous "they" would just decree Metric as IT, and be done
with it.  In one generation, the transition would be complete.  Instead we
pander to those to lazy and myopic to to figure out the diameter of a donut
in cm ....

But then, in a totally service economy, where the only available jobs are
"really happy, totally fulfilled and always  smiling Associates" selling
stuff to each other, made outside the US by workers doing 60+ hours a week
at slave labor wages, we won't even need a unit of measure except for
"girth" :-)
