We gave up using wireless in my office -- 4 of us working simultaneously would overwhelm it. Our app is data intensive -- so is my son's online video gaming. I had many talks with our IT guy. Consumer grade routers just aren't up to the task. There are commercial units costing $$$ that can do it. Hardwire was somewhere between 4 and 10 times faster than our wireless setup. We have had no more pauses when multiple users are accessing the database at the same time now that we are hard wired. This was with Wireless G routers. Wireless N may be up to it but I haven't tried any of them since our laptops don't support it and early units were a bit flakey. Last I heard wireless N hadn't been finalized. If the specs change then your equipment could become suddenly obsolete. (I know that is unlikely at this point.)

Modern wireless routers handle 45 Mbits/sec. I can't imagine using that up

I would be cautious trying to do this over a wireless modem. The
obvious problem is security. Less obvious is the speed problem you
could have. As far as I know these consumer wireless routers really
only talk to one IP address at a time. If there are other people
sharing your wireless router you will get only a portion of the wireless
bandwidth and could get a lot of stuttering. This is especially true if
you have teenagers in the house. Their appetite for bandwidth is
equaled only by their appetite for everything in the fridge. Even if
you don't have those problems it is unlikely the wireless connection is
anywhere near as fast as your cable connection -- at least that is the
case in my locale (Comcast cable). I've got a server and 3 other PC's
hardwired and also use wireless for 2 others -- I can really see the
difference. If you're serious about doing it that way try using Skype
or the like for a while over the connection first. If it isn't reliable
your Omni VII won't stand a chance.

It's not all that hard to pull a run of CAT5E or CAT6 if you stick to
inside walls. I payed $100 per run in a 2 story house. I think it will
save you a lot of grief in the long run.

John.. and the group

JOY!!!!

I had to "add the IP" into another box to get the thing to stick.

but now, I have control over the omni VII and it seems to work..
Can't hear anything out of the computer yet. (there's NO speaker!!)

Now, if that was the easy part, I am in deep poop trying to get this
to work over the www

I have a high speed cable modem connected to a linksys wireless
access point router.

the radio will be in the shack and connected to the wireless router
via a wireless game port (yet to be purchased)

according to the GUI instructions, I need to know what the IP of my
wireless modem is. It tried the default, but came up blank.

so.. how does one ping the wireless access and or the cable modem?

will the wireless game port have an IP address too?
