With SPLIT one frequency is transmit and one is receive. Thus RX is adjustable without changing TX freq..

With RIT one frequency is transmit and one is receive offset by the RIT value. Thus RX is adjustable without changing TX freq.

My point, SPLIT shows the RX freq and TX freq. With RIT one knows the TX freq but has to add or subtract the RIT value to know the RX freq.

If one prefers a different tone on CW, they should adjust their sidetone frequency thus the two stations will be on the same frequency. Otherwise they are using two different frequencies when one would be most adequate. I come across many CW stations in QSO that are not on the same frequency. Likely they do prefer a different tone depending on ones preference and there's nothing wrong with that. However in this case they should adjust their sidetone frequency accordingly.

Just depends on which flavor of ice cream one prefers.

RIT on most rigs works perfectly.
It is not "split".
It is for use when the station in communication with is slightly off frequency. Perhaps he is running separates, or something old. You don't want to adjust your dial, or else he will too....and you will walk up or down the band.
Pop on the RIT, adjust to your liking, and all is fixed.

Of course....on CW, you can use it to adjust the tone frequency to your liking, without changing transmit frequency.

It is much easier to use SPLIT. Plus one knows directly the freq of their TX and RX.

From my take, every radio I've ever owned or used including others than
Tentec, the RIT function sucks! I view it as a carry over from "CB Clarifier" days.

I work cw most all the time, and the Eagle's RIT implementation sucks, that plus another nit or two caused me to get rid of the Eagle, although the QSK cw was the best I have ever used, and I liked the implementation of the RF gain and low noise receiver. Toby K4NH

Split is not difficult. You don't even have to push the fUNC key.
The one that bugs me is RIT.

And, how does one engage SPLIT again in the Eagle....in the heat of battle?
