Just tossing out an idea operationally, my preference is to use SPLIT.  If I 
were to use RIT and bump the VFO knob I change TX freq and RX freq.   On the 
other hand, by using SPLIT, if I bump the VFO knob I only change RX freq. 
And I can use the MULTI knob for something else like changing the keyer 
speed and not needing to push any buttons.
