The contractor said, use plywood.  Not knowing of fiber cement board, I 
used plywood. Most could be pulled, but not all.  The one in the really 
unstable soil has been log gone after 13-14 years.  At 17,000# each 
movement has been slight in one. Nil in others.  Wish I'd known about 
fiber cement board back then. OTOH it appears the minor movement is due 
to the soil and no room for back guys.
