It seems like there are always going to be a few people who try to cheat
at any endeavor. My sister is a college math teacher. She's caught
several cheaters in her classes over the last few years. She could only
guess at the percentage that actually cheat and don't get caught.
Hopefully it's small.

In ham radio, where cheating doesn't result in such mean consequences as,
say, in The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, it just seems like a hollow victory
to me. I just am not the type of person who could be proud of a victory I
got by cheating.

But I don't know how you could always enforce it, either. Maybe the cases
of using pingjockey or logging onto a packet node can be identified, but
what about the more obscure rules like power level? You couldn't prove
another station was running more power than what they're reporting unless
you actually went to their stations or they told someone. You could only
be suspicious.

When I'm Single-Op Portable, I invite some of the local hams to come up
and see my site if they're willing to drive out there. I always enjoy
visitors and I don't have anything to hide.

And as a result I think I enjoy the victories I did have.
