How to activate it?
This is very useful on CW when a run station picks up calls in his pileup.
It allows you start transmitting before the call in the call window is
completed.
Without this feature there will be a delay until you have completed
typing a complicated call.
During this small delay, the station you intend to work starts calling
again - and so do all others - and you end up in a mess.

I'm so glad you inquired about this important feature which is like "Auto
Send Character Count" in TR which I had forgotten about in the transition
here. Non-Serious CW Contest WL users may not fully understand the
benefits of this jewel. It is indeed *very* important!!!
If the switch to turn it on is hiding somewhere, I'd also like to know 'cuz
can't seem to find it. I usually have it set at 4 or 5 in TR, but of
course one problem is when you're typing in a call like WZ5ZZZ/QRP (I so
dislike "/QRP" in a contest). But I'd rather have the feature. A quick
way to change the "trigger" character number would also be valuable.
One thing I yearn for is for a W-I--D---E----R "Free Form" field...like the
exchange line in TR, so we can SEE the entire exchange text we're
typing. Brief tests indicate that callsign corrections can be made on this
one line just as in TR, without having to tab or reverse tab to the regular
callsign field. Talk about a time savings in a fast paced
contest!!! Having the option to position a W-I--D---E----R Free Form field
BELOW the existing tab exchange fields would also be very, very
good. Minimal eye movement would be required to double-check info to the
regular fields if necessary.
IMHO, a "Start Sending At Character Number" enhancement would also need to
work from the Free Form field, which is one reason I've tagged this onto
your post.
