As a sailor, I concur with the use of bowline knots. I use them extensively in racing catamarans and have never had one fail. I also use them in all my antenna work. Fast, easy, secure and easy to untie. OTOH, when rock climbing I use the double "8" as do most friends I know. More a matter of convention than anything else. I would not hesitate to use the bowline.
