IMHO the whole idea of HQ stations is kind of lopsided.

First, the problems mentioned before, "patriots" working only their alma HQ.

Second, the idea of using the biggest, baddest stations scattered around the
country under one callsign. (Is it legal everywhere?)

Third, the biggest, baddest HQ stations park on the frequency with eternal CQs
and take over the band. I remember back in S5 at WRTC, on low bands, the poor
regular stations had no chance to even find spot for few CQs, they were
clobbered by HQ behemoths who dominated band wall to wall. I bet it was the
same lately and HQs "rule" the bands, busy "working" their subjects for great
number of uniqeeees.

Seems contesting going to extreme?
