Well, now, I think someone aught to wear a HEADSET and then you don't
hear
any damn clacking reed relays ...............

I only tried delaying one of the EXT TR relays and it made no
difference on the relay clacking - I didn't try delaying both of them.

Barry, if you delay those relays, they won't follow the cw keying

they won't clack.

Right, but he's asking specifically about the audible relay clacking.

The above is from my Orion II manual.
The part that is a bit vague to me is the default of 20% in the CW
menu.
I should think that a delay of 0% would be true QSK, similar to my
Omni
VI+, but I have no way to measure it. I'm sure that John Henry can
teoll
us what value to set to have the same performance as the older Omni
VI,
and Corsair II had.

Two relays?

That makes no sense at all.
One would think that it adjusts the hang time of the Linear's own
relay, and therefore the Orion's internal relay would have to stop
clacking.

There IS an EXT T/R Delay setting in the TX Menu but it has no
effect
on the keying relay clacking.

Guys, I may be wrong, but I seem to remember that there were TWO
adjustments; one for the relay and one for the RX recovery. It's
been
over 5 years since I have owned an Orion, but I'm pretty certain
it
was that way. In any case, it would have to be one of the items
on the
TX menu.

Correct Floyd, the CW delay makes the receiver audio quiet but
does
nothing for the relay clacking in both the Orion and Orion II.

An interesting question. I wonder if the Orion and Orion 2
differ in
this respect. On my Orion 2, I can use the CW delay to achieve
semi-break-in, but I still hear the same relay clacking away. I
expected to hear the relay only at the beginning and end of a
transmission, but that's not the case - it still follows the
keying,
although the receiver is properly muted for the delay set with
the CW
delay function. So, maybe Toshimi's desire to eliminate the
relay
noise
is not satisfied this way.

Hi Toshimi,
You can adjust the delay of the TR relay.
If you select a delay, then it is effectively semi BK and no
longer
QSK.
This was added to the rig after the initial release so it
probably
was not
in the manual.
Maybe someone who owns an Orion can jump in and tell you
exactly
how to
adjust it. I have forgotten.

Hi all. I am JE2UFF.
This month, I got the Orion of used one from US.
I just start operation with it. I can checked user manual, but
not
found.
So please tell me for everyone.
The Orion has semi break in mode? I have other rig. That's
japanese
one.
Normaly, japanese transceiver has two kind of break in
operation
mode. It's
semi and full break in.
The Orion do the CW mode, each mores code can switch the
relay. It
is very
noisy. Is this normal specs?
If it has semi break in mode then the relay can switch for
start
and finish
of two times. Very quaiet.
Thanks all
