But they haven't been skunked. They were beat. This shows the fallacy
of relying on preliminary scores as any kind of determination of final
scores - not of enforced use of those preliminary scores. People make
mistakes - like the "29 minute break" fellow. And here some people are
proposing to scour the 3930 to make him wear a scarlet letter. I have
a preliminary score web page, and a logs received web page. But it is
used for just those things - logs received happen as we get the logs,
and preliminary scores get posted after contest deadline. No surprises
happen, and adjustments are not bandied about. There are always
changes - the most common one being that a fair number of softwares
doesn't score correctly.

And the insinuation by some that somehow not posting to the reflector
is somehow related to cheating is particularly offensive. Some
fatherly advice here might be "do not see a cheater behind every
tree". You don't want to dilute your message too much. And coupling
3930 posting to contesting ethics is a galloping great lot of dilution.

And my advice to people who want the contest results immediately - get
involved with the contest of your choice. Do something. Help. Make a
difference. One thing I can guarantee is a new perspective.
