Besides the WriteLog Help manual one of the best WriteLog help sites is by
Scot K9JY at http://www.k9jy.com/. He has very complete info on how to
configure WriteLog for all types of contests. Look at the tab Contest
Setup/Tools for a very good discussion of Sound Board Setup and Wave File
Compression. I haven't looked at Scot's web site closely in some time and
the sound card setup may be slightly out of date due to the recent changes
made to WriteLog to accommodate Vista and Win7. However this should give
you a good feel for what is involved in creating wav files and how to make
them play in a SSB contest.
If you have an OS later than XP the Windows Sound Recorder that Scot details
is no longer available in Windows. I use an a very nice freebee program
called Audacity to create and edit my wav files. It can be found at
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/. There are many tricks and tips to using
wav files in a SSB contest, but this should get you going with the basics.
