Agreed although it does depend on the length of tubing beyond the joint
plus the wind area.
I chose 1' arbitrarily as I like to be on the safe side. A number of the
commercial antennas here use from about 3" to 8" (I'd have to measure to
be sure...or find the manual) One I'm thinking of is the AV640 which
IIRC uses a fair amount at the base and little near the top.
